EHC topped iTunes without being a promo single. Had it had the GMA promo RED had, not to mention the billion times it was performed on release week, it would already be 2xplat.
Lol. EHC topped itunes because of the HYPE around it being the Taylor/Ed collab. Once the hype faded, it fell out of the charts into oblivion.
And thank you for pointing out how Red being a promo single and its performances helped the album sell 1.2M on its first week.

We all know her team likes to submit the more successful single on the general field. So I say it's IKYWT although Red would be a better choice especially for ROTY imo.
It was obvious to me from day 1 that Red and EHC would both flop as singles. The way BM has handled the era this year has been so ****ing lazy. But they do have a new star on their roster now who needs their full attention...Gotta have that backdoor exit.
It was pretty obvious that they back peddled when they released Begin Again to Country after WANEGBT flopped. They could have done a dual lead singles release and appease both radio, but they didn't. I feel like they dropped the ball right off the bat when they released WANEGBT to Country radio.
IKYWT would have smashed either way.

I thought Red was going to be the count-step song She was talking about before IKYWT was mentioned. I sort of pictured Red having this really big chorus, similar to IKYWT. How wrong I was. I like what we got, but I didn't expect a Country-pop sound for Red.
"Red" is already Platinum because it was a promo single, performed multiple times prior, and of course, Taylor has solidified her reputation, most especially after an album such as "Speak Now".
"Fearless" was also a promo single and was performed multiple times but Taylor Swift was still too local then.
"Sparks Fly" is worshiped by fans and without any promo, but word of mouth from fans alone, it opened with 113,000.
"Sparks Fly" holds the record for the most opening sales of an album track on album release week.
