In general it was not well received, with criticisms about certain features:

Mandatory Kinect usage is also a little disturbing. The camera is listening out for you even when it's "off" (it's never really off), and while Microsoft has issued a statement saying it has "strong privacy protections" in place, people are still rightly concerned that a machine -connected to the internet and featuring a camera which is always listening - might be a problem.

The loss of backwards compatibility is also a stinger; we've had our Xbox 360s for a very long time now, and built up a substantial library of games to go with them. Losing the ability to play those games on a new system only lessens the desire to purchase that new system.

TV integration is...OK, I guess, if you're in America, but most people on this planet are not, and as of now, the US is the only place the feature is going to work.

What we do know is that users have to install games from a disc onto the console's hard drive to access the information. Users can then play that game whenever they like without using the disc, but the action also limits how often that disc can be shared. If the install disc is used on another console, there will be a small fee for doing so.

So the system is built to work even if your Internet connection goes down, but you still have to be connected at least once a day to use it, according to Harrison. We're not sure exactly what would happen if you don't connect once per day—and that timeframe could change—but this doesn't sound good for anyone who was hoping to use Xbox One without an Internet connection.

Theyre trying to incorporate all these features when they're missing the point of what a gaming console is for: Gaming.

At this rate, I'll switching to the PS4. Maybe another generation Microsoft.

Yeah, they did seem heavily focused on non-gaming features. However, I'm not sure that's where most of the backlash is coming from: people are annoyed that you have to connect to the Internet once a day, it heavily restricts used/sharing games, no 360 games, mandatory Kinect usage, etc.

My coins are going to the PS4, which largely doesn't have these issues and has a way more impressive potential game lineup

You hit the nail on the head. They're trying so hard to be "new" and "innovative" and all of this stuff that there missing the mark of what they need to do.

The interment rule is dumb. What if there's a power outage? What if you take your console over a friends house or out of town? Hell, what if you don't even have WiFi? Stupid.

That kinect usage is creepy. Like, who thought of that idea? They need to be fired.

They're restricting games and are basically putting a fee on everything. They just need to stop and make a new console.
