I've never kept track of his collabs. If I know he's on a song I usually listen to it, but I don't care that much to check for every verse he puts out.

Do you realize that the LABEL pays for the price of collaborations? They give you a budget with each album, and that budget is what you use to get producers, features, etc.

Mario is on RCA Records. He has a label. He isn't unsigned.

Artists don't pay money out of their own pocket for features, except on rare occasions, like mixtapes, and most of the time when it comes to mixtapes, artists do features on mixtapes as favors for the artist whose mixtape it is.

And remember, she's done features for free a few times as favors.

French Montana (whose debut album is getting a LOT of hype & MONEY pumped into it).

Wayne (which obviously was free).

Rich Gang (obviously free).

Ciara (whose label is pumping money into this album as it's supposed to be her comeback).

Chris Brown (high profile artist whose label always pumps money into).

Carly Rae (her label is pumping money trying to reinvigorate her).

Big Sean (could be free like A$$, but even so he has a budget).

Cam'ron (guarantee you this was done as a favor).

As Josh said, she probably would've done a lot of features in 2012 as well, but she was too busy promoting her album and touring, same as in 2011.

When she isn't promoting her albums or touring, she does a lot of features (see 2010 & 2013).
