Speaking for the general public, sadly, no. Breakaway is considered a modern classic, although My December is way more deserving of the title.
My December is the most severly underrated album of the whole decade. If she had not won Idol and had come out with that from a small indie label, she would have been praised to the Heavens by critics and probably would have been the Adele of that time.
I love the whole theme and concept of the album. Its atmosphere gets me everytime and I can never listen to it without crying. It got me through a lot. The way she conveys emotion and vulnearbility through her voice, lyrics and melody are outstanding and really made me believe in her as a true artist.
She is up there with the greatest artists of this generation, but because her label makes her put out generic and chees stuff like "My Life Would Suck Without You" and "I Do Not Hook Up", she is more seen as a manufactured pop star who lacks craziness. It pisses me off. If critics did their research before they slammed her and listened to this album, Kelly would be seen in a completely different light.
Seriously, I wish she was alternative rock, not pop. She looks like a rock singer, her stage setting is the one of a rock singer, and this sound fits her voice perfectly.
