Whitney has a very small handful of memorable hits. I Will Always Love You is one of the most iconic pop music moments of all time. I Wanna Dance is a distant second, and beyond that her discography mostly falls short. Most of Janet's biggest and most iconic hits (Nasty, Rhythm Nation, Together Again, Any Time, Any Place, Let's Wait Awhile, What Have You Done for Me Lately) are either more popular and still referenced for a particular theme, or simply more remembered and well-known than the rest of Whitney's singles catalog.

But what about Honey, Fantasy, Hero, Shake It Off, Touch My Body and All I want For Christmas For You they are hella remembered. Same for How Will I Know, Save All My Love For You, I'm Every Woman and Greatest Love All are remembered by Whitney.

No one, and I mean NO ONE remembers anything from Stevie, Beatles, Bob Dylan, Aretha, etc.
I'll guarantee you if you name a song to any person by any of those 4 artists - no one will know what it is.
MJ has instantly-memorable hits, such as Thriller, Bad, Beat It, etc. The others, however, do not.
Don't be delusional
No one remembers any of those songs . And as a person, they will be. Sadly, their songs will not. I'm not a delusional fan - I know where to admit stuff .
If you doubt what I'm saying, test it. Go up to a couple of people, ask them do they know the any of those songs, and I'll guarantee you that my results will come back positive. Other wise, you both can stop with the irrational thinking.
There's a BIG difference between a classic, and a memorable song. Or even a memorable classic. BIG, BIG difference.

You know nothing. Those songs may not be remembered in your town, but where I live, not everyone but lots of people know at least that "Hey Jude" was released by The Beatles.

That means your results are negative.

You realize you proved part of my point, right? I said MJ has memorable hits to this day. Stevie, Aretha, The Beatles, etc., do not.
It's not just in my city, it's people in general. If you don't believe me, go and ask a group of people who's "Hey Jude" by, so forth.
and for reference:

Again, the general public does not remember a single thing from the artists I listed. You all can fume over the truth if you want, but you can test what I'm saying in real life and see the results are the same.

That is why I edited my comment, as you may see. I have found some of my classmates listening to "Imagine" by John Lennon, some of them know who Stevie is and know, at least, one of his songs. Not to mention, DJs still play "Hey Jude", "I Saw Her Standing There" or "Help!", and I live in Venezuela, where reggaeton, salsa and merengue dominate.

Not my two Faves up against each other
We all know who the true winner is no question about it
But nice to know SOME of the navy are not as delusional as other's
The janet kids love rihanna she is this generations Head Black Bitch in Charge But no way is she more successful then janet in sales or impact. Janet made it possible for rihanna to even be considered a POP girl she paved the way for her to slay!
Janet is legendary no poll or atrl member can deny her impact and greatness.

Again, proving my point.

All of those people are music legends; their name alone will test the ends of time, but their songs, however, will not. Hey Jude and the rest of the others' songs are already forgotten by the general public. In some years(decades, maybe), MJ's songs will suffer the same fate as the Beatles'. It's a cycle - no song will be remembered for all time.

I will act like no one remembers "I Say a Little Prayer" or "Respect" by Aretha.
Michael Jackson's songs will not suffer that fate, his songs are classics, they will be kept generation by generation. You're acting like "Thriller" was released ten years ago.

And I like MJ, but Stevie eclipses him in the hits and classics department.

Dancing With The Stars just had a Stevie Wonder themed show last Monday.
Glee is covering "Superstition" on this week's show.
HONESTLY.

Once again, you've got to stop this. Just because YOU are ignorant, you can not assume those in the general public are too. You only know what YOU know.

Janet>>>Rihanna
Michael>>>Stevie
The only people who can compete with Michael is the beatles.
Michaels death proved that mans impact. Blockbuster movie, memoribilia, top selling video game, books, etc. He even has a damn ride at disbeyland and disneyworld.
Not to say stevie is not a legend but his impact is nowhere damn near Michael. And Michaels hits are far more global. A two year old can hear thriller or beat it and know it is Michael. That man at one point of his career was more known that popular religious figures.

You cannot compare an old artist with a new one, obviously they sold much more albums.
Use logic.

I bumped this cause I have something to get across.
oh jeez nowonder why I dont post that often anymore. How old are some of you people, seriously? I thought this was supposed to be a music site? There should be a basic music placement test before you register on here, because some of these posts are so damn idiotic. My mother could give better insight on music history and she is musically ignorant.

The reason why Michael's death was big was because he died during his big return. Had he died some time between 2006 - 2008, it really would not had been as big. MJ was once the biggest star on the planet, so it's natural he would have immense commercial success before, during, and after his death.
You can't say what songs anyone knows, because you're only one person on a planet of 7 billion people. Judging by pop culture, Stevie has over 20 well-known classic songs with a stretch of 30 total classics dating back to 1962, 3 years after MJ was born. "I Just Called To Say I Love You" out-ranks all of MJ's hits according to Mediatraffic.
I understand that ATRL likes to exalt MJ as the alpha and omega of pop, but Stevie Wonder is a totally different level of talent and importance that Michael has never, and will never see. Artistically, he is in the ranks of The Beatles, Bob Marley, Aretha Franklin, and Bob Dylan, while Michael, unfortunately, is not.
