Not necessarily. I think part of the reason why PTA didn't blow up was because of how similar it was to Starships.

I hated that. It was clear she was doing dual single so my posts last summer were always:

Spring: Starships/RBMS/BITT
Summer: PTA/IAYL
Fall: VVV
Winter: Marilyn Monroe/ Champion
Spring 2013: Whip It/HOV Lane or Gun Shot

Starships in the summer would have slayed. It is a known fact that PTA underperformed because of it sounding like Starships.

The same case with WFL & WHYB. We all know which song was better.

That's false. Starships is a classic, the lyrics are so memorable. Pound The Alarm and Va Va Voom both just don't have it

Whip It is too much for radio, IMO. Still love it!

If she performed "Va Va Voom" at the GRAMMYs and kept the album release date on February 14, she would've opened with 600k I think.

IT's not quite the same WHYB was just released too late it would have smashed if it was released earlier

TTT and RR Era's was basically the same when it came to singles:

WFL and Starships lead single
You Da One and RBMS overshadowed by them
TTT and BITT released as the third singles. Now they both have 3 songs taking off at the same time.
