Because back then she was actually speaking her mind and she had a lot of reasons to be sad and regret what she did, how does that not make her look normal?
During the FF she was just repeating the same phrases over and over in every interview.
Of course she was a shadow of her former self during both era. During Circus she just seemed sad and embarrassed after what she went through, while during FF she seemed like she was too high on meds to realize what is going on.
She did have quite a few bright moments during both eras, don't get me wrong.
