Brando never mentioned anything about Legend status.
He was just proving that Celine has several hits that are bigger than any of Janet's songs on a WW scale, and the receipts help to justify that.

Except they're not, Together Again has sold more than all those songs, just check the certifications.

Bigger impact on the music industry? Janet.
Influenced more stars? Janet, her influence is more widespread, too.
More critically acclaimed? Janet.
Overall the bigger legend? Janet.
The only two things Celine has over Janet are her album sales and "My Heart Will Go On". Four of Janet's albums are ranked by top publications as being the greatest of all time and/or the greatest of a decade. The janet. album alone is more acclaimed than Celine's 492 releases. Yes "My Heart Will Go On" was more of a hit than any Janet song, but "Nasty" and "Rhythm Nation" alone are more widely recognized than anything in Celine's catalog. RN continues to inspire around the globe. Your faves continue to cite Janet as an influence - Selena Gomez being the most recent. Your faves continue to copy draw inspiration from her videos, emulate her style, xerox her artistic growth, sample her songs, and the list goes on. The only thing we use Celine for is that nasally ass, karaoke ass, poor intonation ass, unhealthy belting ass, wannabe dramatic soprano ass voice

Celine Dion. Janet is more of an icon, plus her career is more local than anything.

Go say that to most of the people she's influenced. How can she be local if most of her sales come from outside the States? And even if she was who cares? Aretha Franklin and Barbra Streisand are local and no ones faves here are bigger legends than them.

So if Janet is local, can you explain to me why her first tour sold out on 4 continents, and why she's sold more records OUTSIDE of the US than in her homeland?

There is no comparison. One has contributed significantly to popular music progression (Janet) while the other has not (Celine).
Some of you and your ignorant "local" ******** argument....

I think the one true international hit that Janet had was Together Again. Other than that, none of her songs really sticked around as years were passing by and many people I know can't even name me 5 proper Janet Jackson songs. Celine Dion's huge global impact on the music industry is undeniable and she's also a common name for the younger generations, because songs like My Heart Will Go On and All By Myself are still played now and then on the radio, unlike Janet Jackson's, whose songs barely get any airplay on radio stations nowadays.
You can't just say that Celine "only" has sold more albums/records, because that's all it's about. Far more people have bought far more Celine Dion records, while far less people have bothered to purchase Janet's stuff. "Bigger Impact" my ass, because after all that's what makes a Legend for the most part. Celine is a household name EVERYWHERE in the world, earned herself a fortune in Vegas and continues to be a huge selling force in countries like France, Canada and the US.

What songs people can name has absolutely no bearing on what defines an international hit. Hell I like Celine myself and I can't name any of her songs outside of MHWGO, ABM, "If You Ask Me To", and "Because You Love Me". You can't use the ignorance of others to support your argument. From what I've noticed, Janet's international fans have stated on numerous occasions that "When I Think Of You", "The Best Things In Life Are Free", "Runaway", "Together Again", "That's The Way Love Goes", and "What Have You Done For Me Lately" are consistently played on stations in their countries.
"You can't just say that Celine "only" has sold more albums/records, because that's all it's about."
And you're absolutely correct, at least for Janet you can't. Whenever Celine is mentioned on ATRL, it's ALWAYS about her album sales and how big MHWGO is. I've never seen discussions about how transcendent her music is, memorable performances, or what legendary videos she has. Janet has set the standard for the female pop star. She is the template. Her videos are legendary. Her albums are held at a higher standard than all of Celine's. She is the standard for female dance. She has set the tone for live performing. Celine's only talent is her karaoke voice, which sits in third place behind Whitney and Mariah, more accomplished vocalists. As I've stated many times, commercial success does not make an artist a legend. What makes an artist a legend is how their work has contributed to and/or altered the progression of pop culture at a recognizable level by both the critics and the general public. Celine has contributed NOTHING important to the shaping of pop culture. Turn on the radio and you'll hear "Any Time, Any Place" sampled. Go to Selena Gomez' up coming tour, it's Janet inspired. Look at Britney, Beyonce, Usher, Gaga, Rihanna, etc doing what Janet was doing 10-20 years ago while Celine was busy lowering keys in her live performances and covering songs note-for-note with ZERO interpretive musicianship.

Ok, so you must think Britney Spears is a bigger legend than Bob Dylan, am I correct? I hear Janet on the radio more than Celine, Celine only gets radio play when its a special accasion like valantines day.
