LONDON -- Oscar winner Ben Kingsley, Indian actor Anupam Kher and singer Nicole Scherzinger are among the winners at this year's Asian Awards in the British capital.

Now in its third year, the Asian Awards cast its net wider for this edition to include honorees from across the Asian continent.

Kingsley was honored with a fellowship award, while Hanif Kureishi, whose work includes the screenplay My Beautiful Laundrette, picked up the evening's arts award and Kher, most recently seen in Silver Linings Playbook, took home the cinema plaudit.

The awards also honored pop singer Nicole Scherzinger with its music nod, and actress Nina Wadia picked up an honor for her television work, which includes the BBC One soap opera EastEnders.

The nods are the only event on the UK calendar that celebrate achievements of individuals originating from the Asian continent, including those living in the UK, India, China, Japan, Korea, Singapore and other South and Far East countries, across entrepreneurialism, the arts and public life.

Previous Asian Award honorees from the world of entertainment include Indian singer Asha Bhosle, Indian actor Amitabh Bachchan, British singer/rapper Jay Sean and composer A.R. Rahman.

This is a British award. It's mainly for Asian visibility in the UK. Nicole hasn't made any impact in Asian countries since Doll Domination.
