Sunny Day is not a waste of a turn, and you can make even better use of it with Heat Rock. Secondly, Pain Split does not work that way; you're thinking of Endeavor, which Vulpix does not learn. This renders Quick Attack useless, and Safeguard was never doing much in the first place.
If you want a strong pokemon to start Sun in NU, there are much better options available such as Charizard, Cherrim, and Exeggutor among others.

yeah i pretty much realized that when i tested it and it didn't work as i thought
i thought pain split would work like endeavor if the pokemon was level 1 too, and the reason i didn't wanna use sunny day for NU is because usually when i'm battling in NU, if i use a turn to use sunny day i'll probably get 2HKO'd by a choice scarfer or set up on.
but anyway, i'll just stick with my half NU/half NEU team (fan-made tier on the program i use, never ever used)
shell smash carracosta usually lead, stored power musharna, choice scarf sawk, haunter, mesprit, and slaking
i kind of want to replace one of them with a focus sash volbeat, probably carracosta or slaking. i haven't tested shell smash carracosta too much yet though, so hopefully shell smash can patch up its pitiful speed.
and if i do put a volbeat on my team, i will probably do the tail glowing to either haunter or mesprit.
oh btw using this musharna is so fun i've swept with it alot

it has barrier, calm mind, moonlight, and stored power
