They can't put bomb detectors in front of all the store entrances by the finish line.

With exceptions, this is designed for public viewing, so the logistics aren't there but that will obviously change next year (if there'll be a next year)

It's impossible to know for sure what to be prepared for, who would have thought someone would bomb a marathon? If you watch the video, there are lots of police and security around, there was an extremely fast response time. However, it would be impossible for them to have known this was going to happen.
