So the ACM decides on the percentages each year? Hardly surprising that they gave it to the host of their award show then...
Yup, you're absolutely right. Taylor probably had 80% of the fan votes, and they decided to give it to the one who had the closest amount and who was most "popular" at the moment. They just can't stand to see women breaking records.
Taylor: Don't touch me, you old hag!
Shania: Give me your youth and relevancy!
Faith: Look away, nothing to see here!
Old Woman in Row 2: *scandalized*
In a way I guess this can end up working for the better. Taylor may end up doing whatever she wants to do now without worrying about the support of general country. The truth is when Taylor's career is over country music will be kissing her hind end while these other "artists' will be long forgotten. I'm not bothered.

I've listened to HDC performance about 10 times, and wow at that song!! This song is just amazing. Abstractly, the lyrics are AMAZING!! I mean, I'm still trying to figure them out. Absolutely a beautiful song, and dead at Taylor's parts in the live version getting the crowd going every single time, gotta love it!!
