The A&R rep at the label is very involved in the process. Keep in mind the label pays for studio time, sound engineers, collaborators, producers, etc. So it's not like they're caught completely off guard when she plays them songs.
At the same time, Mariah is so protective of her music and is such a perfectionist that rarely anyone gets to hear it until she feels it is ready to be heard. Believe it or not, she had literally recorded some BVs minutes before the meeting because she felt it was necessary for the song.
For the album to come out, there are still two things that need to happen. First, Mariah needs to complete it and second, the label needs to come up with a plan that all parties are pleased with. Both things are still in process and once they're complete, I assume that's when we'll get a release date.

There are a few in contention, and I think they're settling on one as soon as the next 2 weeks. But I truly do NOT have a clue when it will be out. Like everyone else, I assume it will be out by the end of idol's run.
