They DO care about hits, because they need ratings. They have to put hits into their nominations. Do you think anyone will care if there're full of non-famous artists in the nominations?
When it's about who should win, usually it's the truly best one among the nominations. If there're two-three nominees with the same quality, they tend to pick the one who can draw more attention.
This is going nowhere. You said the Grammys are about hits and I gave examples where it's not. Just because the Grammy voters supposedly include hits to get higher ratings (your theory) doesn't contradict what I said.
