Well, if you actually listened to Nirvana instead of talking *****, maybe you would notice how amazing this album really is. No stretch here, Kurt Cobain was one of the most talented artists out there. Nevermind, Nirvana and grunge became a music phenomenon before Kurt died, btw.
When it comes to influence, Nirvana successfully killed hair metal and brought an alternative, underground genre to the spotlight. Nirvana is directly responsible for the new explosion of alternative rock in the 90s. They created some kind of sound and image revolution in the whole music scene and have lasting impact. There is not a rock band which was not influenced by Nirvana and grunge movement in some way or another after 1991.
Its funny that we have to talk about this on a pop forum tho, where many people like ****** music just for its success, sales and popularity, yet they have the guts to shade a truly brilliant album for its "cool factor", "overexposure", "popularity" or whatever their reason is... ironic
To answer the OP question, yes, Nevermind is a classic.
