There was no Nashville this week. (The show, not the city.) So since I had to endure a rerun of my favorite new soap opera, I went looking for when the next new episode would air, and I found something even better -- a Q&A with the show's creator, Callie Khouri, where she talks openly about the portrayal of women on Nashville and in Nashville. "I mean, sure, you can water Nashville down to its most simplistic form and say, 'Yeah, it's a competition between two women who are fighting for the same spot,' but it's really more about women in an incredibly competitive market and how few spots there are and what you have to do to be relevant at any age in that market," she says, adding that a lot of reality shows are just "female wrestling disguised as something else."
