She has always been in charge of her brand and she still is but no, she has always had a manager.
Freddy DeMann was her manager from 1983-1997 (he was Michael Jackson's manager in Off the Wall and Thriller eras before he became Madonna's), some other person managed her from 1997-Confessions era, & Guy Oseary manages her now. Madonna did own her own entertainment company Maverick which consisted of a record label, film production, music publishing, & book publishing divisions but it dissolved aka was a flop smh

I didn't realize DC = Beyonce now....and those "hood" tracks are tame in comparison to what Rihanna has done. Stop confusing "urban" with "ratchet/hood." Beyonce's buzz song is directly influenced by Rihanna's hood tracks.
