Religion in general is dying off slowly but surely in the Western world. It's an undeniable fact. But Worldwide? Not right now, but in a hundred years? Who knows. It'll be a long time before we're a religion-less species, but unless God himself appears or some massive disaster kills all the non-believers it's bound to happen, eventually.
I personally wonder what's gonna happen in 20 years time when all the current older population has passed on. Every single church in the UK is gonna be practically empty.
I agree that religion started many good things.. but that doesn't mean that they won't die out.. knowledge and atheism is really changing the scene.. and in the future, there will be less people that will believe in such ideas.. catholic, jewish and everything else will become less
Well that's kind of weird because my belief that there is a God who created us and the universe was strengthen by Science; Physics to be exact.
Hopefully it does ASAP. I actually have more respect for hard-liners and fundamentalists of other religions/denominations. Not that I agree with them at all, but Catholics seem to do what they want, but when they are against something, they use god's name to denounce it. **** the pope and what he thinks. The fact that so many priests/clergy/whatever **** little boys is disgusting and indicative of how humanity and religion don't always miss. Why would you require someone to not have sex? These are human urges, and people will resort to fulfilling them no matter what.
I think the church needs to focus on their (myriad) problems before bitching to the civilized world about everything we're doing wrong.
Sam... She practices. She has said recently that she is a 'practicing Catholic.'
Yeah I just found a source.
I recall something about her saying she doesn't uphold the institutional values of Catholicism, but that she still prays and everything. Mess at me confusing a practising Catholic with a traditional Catholic.
In other news, I can't believe my first ever thread which contains a valid discussion has been reported.
I understand that some of you don't practice a religion, and I'm perfectly okay with that. However, it's extremely hypocritical to bash Catholics (or anyone of any religion, for that matter) simply for identifying with that religion. It's a two-way street: you can't treat others without respect and expect them to treat you with respect.

The thing is: not all religion is how you view it.
Christianity is a religion of LOVE. There are many gay and gay-friendly Christians, Jews, etc. in this world.
There's no reason to think that God hates you. He made you just the way you are.

A MESS at people stereotyping Christians.
Just because we believe in God doesn't mean we don't also believe in science.

Islam is the world's largest religion. Get your facts straight first. Christianity: 17.5% of global population, Islam: 19.5%. This was officially reported in around late 2011, I think. You can google it for receipts if you don't believe me.
at people thinking that science cancels out religion. There are plenty of arguments that support the fact that religion and science can co-exist (I'd be able to tell you them if I didn't drop out of Philosophy after 2 weeks but I know that there are plenty of convincing arguments )
