You can tell I never pay attention to chart positions and all the different aspects in getting a #1.

I was under the impression that due to the extremely heavy weighting of youtube in the new Hot 100 rules, it's now basically a shoe-in for these major stars to have their videos push them to #1 (or the higher ranks of the Hot 100) upon release.

I am aware of the YT new rule but how heavily is it? Unless it's like 30% or more then 1D is not getting that #1, maybe a Top 10 with some luck but they are almost out of the top 5 of itunes right now, although the video should boost it once again.

Well, under the old rules, "Harlem Shake" would have been about ~#15. Including the weight of youtube views, the song is now sitting at #1, with about three and a half times more power than the #2 song, "Thrift Shop".

So, that heavy.

Well you have to look at it this way.

The formula is designed to give the AVERAGE #1 a certain percentage of the formula. So lets say the average in any given week is 10 million views which makes up 25% of the formula (or for this hypothetical 25 points). If a video then got 100 million views in one week it would get 250 point...........while its rival which was #1 in every other category only could rack up 75% or 75 points because it was a fairly average #1.

I hope that makes sense. We will have to give the new formula some time to see how it works out.

That does make sense, actually. So this new rule was just bad timing, because "Harlem Shake" is a particularly strong song and not necessarily representative of the actual weighting once we have a more level playing field.

Is that what you mean? If not, then I'm sorry, but I'm just mentally incompetent when it comes to how the charts work.
