I don't keep up with this show but from what I gathered, Nicki advised him, previously, to step it up with the song choices so that he could showcase more versatility and he failed to do so.

On the first audition he sang an original song and that's what impressed Nicki the most alongside his quirky personality. Then he repressed his personality and choose to sing classic auditions songs for this next rounds and that's what Nicki was annoyed at. She saw a flame in his eyes, something unique and special in his first auditions and then he became average and went for a traditional path. I mean, I would be annoyed too
