I think they should just stop at 1000 or so, I'm assuming we'll have like 780~ this Gen, so they could squeeze like two more out, and then just focus on exploring other parts of the world and all that junk. I mean Pokemon has to end at some point. Its not Mario where they can rehash the same game over and over.
This is a great idea. They can't be that creative forever without repeating themselves and with so many Pokemon (a lot of which are completely forgotten) it'd be fantastic if they stopped making loads of new Pokemon and made new games focusing on different parts. Spicing the game up with different situations and styles of gameplay would be great. I'm never that excited about new Pokemon now and I care more about the new mechanics and region.
!!!!!!!
I think its time they packed it in tbh, they should just focus on remakes and little games on the side focusing using the other gens. I can't deal with all these new Pokemon...looking like Digimon and weird Frankenstein creations...

Agreed. I think instead of new generations, make new games where the entire (and new) map includes pokemon from all previous generations, especially in the beginning of the map so almost every player has a different team.
Edit: And YES at whoever mentioned the medieval theme

They need to expand the gameplay further. Explore possibly switching up starter types for example, or getting rid of the 3-choice starter system altogether. Just some ideas anyway. I feel like there's a lot of ways to freshen up the series which don't involve adding more Pokemon.
I meant like the European medieval period; that game is based heavily on Japanese imagery, which is nice but not what I'm specifically inclined to like.
I'm all here for them expanding on different periods of Pokemon, updating the game play, and just bringing something fresh to the game play. Like Pluto said, they could do a lot with the series besides just bringing in new Pokemon all the time.
I mean I already got the ones I love and usually always end up using if I can
On the contrary I'd say that the starters were some of the best designs in the entire game. Well at least the Snivy and Oshawott lines anyway. Tepig was always a BIT questionable to me.
LOVE Tepig tho! Well, its because of the anime I guess
Oh yeah, please, Pokemon is never ending. If only because they can still essentially re-make the same game over 6 different times with 5432342543642 different versions / remakes and they still sell huge numbers and break records at that. Even if Gamefreak never does anything new with the series it WILL continue ala Mario or Donkey Kong.
A way they could make new games without adding new pokemon is by having us play as the evil team.
I'd love that
Something I've longed for since Gold and Silver. And perhaps the most interesting way they could shake up the series. Pokemon: Good vs. Evil, or something. That would be HUGE.
I'm just so pumped that I don't have to try to block myself from looking at all of the designs when the games come out, cause they will be released here around the same time!
