Master of My Make-Believe, yes, yes yesss!! As yet my favorite from your list. GO!, Disparate Youth, The Riot's Gone, Pirate in the Water and, one of the finest songs of the year, This Isn't Our Parade. Still gives me chills.
I actually got to dance on stage with her a few month ago.

Yes!!
I actually got into her this year and I was taken away by
this awesomeness. I wish I got into her
earlier, but I know she's on my Favorites
list now. This album is awesome.

Both very underrated artists, Santigold's music is not really my cup of tea but I can tell she's very experimental and talented, definitely deserves more success.
As for Regina, I like some of her singles but I haven't had the chance to listen to a whole album of hers, perhaps I should consider it.

The cover is definitely cute!

I think it's worth a try and Regina's too, especially if you already like some of the songs on it the cover is super cute, Regina's definitely one of the cutest people ever

I agree with everything you said about Santi.
and with Regina, I don't think you could go wrong checking out a full album of hers. she's pretty consisten quality-wise and doesn't really have any fillers on her albums.

TOP ALBUMS OF 2o12
THE TOP 1o
#o8 MARINA & THE DIAMONDS
Electra Heart
Marina's sophomore album took many people by surprise, including myself. I didn't expect it to be so radically different from her much-loved debut, at least sonically. it's much more contemporary, radio-friendly sounding as it leans towards a electro/bubblegum-pop direction, and while I'm glad that this resulted in a couple of danceable tracks on the album, I can't help but feel that others are just a bit overproduced. the melodies are catchy, though, and there's also some beautifully haunting ballads where some of her old style comes through.
Marina often plays with that contrast of happy, upbeat music against sad/tragic lyrics, which I think works amazingly well. those lyrics are, like on her debut, very personal, reflecting her feelings in different life situations, and she wrote them in a very honest and relatable way. that's why I don't quite understand why she had to take on this 'Electra Heart' persona, I think it wasn't really necessary and just confused people a lot, keeping them from properly enjoying the music and possibly even alienating some fans. it's an amazing album, despite the more commercial sound, and I wish she hadn't hidden behind that alter ego or whatever.
favorite tracks Lies. Teen Idle. Valley Of The Dolls. |
#o7 SILVERSUN PICKUPS
Neck Of The Woods

this band and this album is something else. you've probably noticed by now that for me, it's very important how music makes me feel and that I can connect with it on a somewhat emotional level; and Silversun Pickups are a band to whose music I react pretty strongly, so to speak. they have a shoegaze-ish, dreamy sound to them, mixed with rock, which is once again executed perfectly on their third album and I find it extremely fascinating because it makes their music so versatile.
it's hard to describe what this album is like but it definitely has a great dynamic, the songs often building up, leaving you on the edge of your seat anticipating some kind of musical explosion. it seamlessly switches between fast, more aggressive passages with energetic guitars and drums to slower, keyboard-dominated parts that draw you in and are both soothing and haunting, often all within one song. their singer's voice fits that perfectly, it's very expressive, and then they have their female bassist do back-up vocals and harmonies, adding another extra layer of mystery to the mix. lyric-wise, I don't really understand what most of the songs are about, but there are single lines in each song that can be extremely relatable.
this is one of my favorite albums to fall asleep to - no, not because it's so boring, but because when I listen to it, I already feel like I'm dreaming even when I'm still awake.
favorite tracks Make Believe. The Pit. Gun-Shy Sunshine. |

I liked Marina's album, although it got old fast.
I've heard of that band but I've never listened to them.
