We talked a lot about this in our English class last year after we read Savage Inequalities by Jonathon Kozol. The biggest problem with the education thing is that the funding is directly connected to property taxes, so the schools that have the poorest students don't get the money they need because--surprise!--the houses aren't as expensive as in a suburb. Many people don't realize this, to be honest--I thought that it was just common knowledge that the funding comes from property taxes.
It would be nice to say that more money would solve the problem, but that's just not the case unfortunately. I live in a city with about 250k population, and I go to the school that serves the rural population and some suburbs (a good mix of privileged kids and otherwise not), but we have SUBSTANTIALLY less money per kid than the inner-city school system (literally a couple hundred dollars less per student) yet we do better in almost every measure. I have no idea what we can do to remedy this problem.

We had to read a few excerpts from there as well in my African American Lit class! But I forgot everything from there
And yeah that's really a great point about the money. But the most fundamental problem is attitude towards inner-city education and children. Money is a relatively easy problem to fix (still a bitch though), but attitude is a problem so deeply ingrained in the supremacist mindset.

If you look at the average ACT/SAT test score, they are pretty sh*tty. There aren't enough minorities to contribute substantially to those numbers so they are coming from a lot of white people.
|
According to some people, if you deported the minorities, America would skyrocket to the top 5 of education and wouldn't have a problem in the economy because we're "hogging up the welfare".

I can't really relate to what you said because I live in England and schools are just schools here.
But from an outsiders point of view reading what you put you seem hypocritical and butthurt. You obviously have a minor dislike towards Caucasian people.

No I don't have any dislike towards White people at all. In America, there's a certain demographic and how different racial groups are "spread out". Schools in suburbs tend to be more well-financed and teachers prefer to work there instead of "dangerous" inner-cities, which is why people living in inner-city (mostly Blacks and Hispanics) get the short-end of the stick...which ultimately results in them realizing there's no value in education because they received such poor education in the first place
I apologize if I came off offensive, racist, or rude, however. But that's one of the main cores behind "white supremacy"

The logic. Poor America, having minorities hold them back from its true academic and economic potential.

I'm saying in relative terms. Suburban grade schools > inner-city grade schools majority of the time

I still don't know why we read the whole thing. The damn book was published in 1990.

You are the DEFINITION of a racist with too much damn privilege and ignorance it got your head stuck in the clouds. First telling me that we are supposed to just forget an integral part of history, yet supposed to always learn about the holocaust. Miss me with that, now your justifying slavery andthe millions upon million killed, raped and enslaved. Your a sick/twisted little girl. It doesn't matter if we knew them or not the point is it is still an integral part of history, and it definitly has an effect. After the end of slavery ot lead to segregation, discrimination, stereotypes, racial privelege among many other issues that still take over the world till this day. I see you for what you are and it's sad on your part

I think I did come across that way so i applogize. But not many white people realize the luxuries they have, and that's what I was trying to get at.

It's called brutal honesty and black people are trying to live off the fact they were once slaves. The US is equal now, stop trying to drag it back down to before MLK Jr.

Girl, that's because you are racist. Look in the mirror accept it and acknowledge it, and try to change your ways. And maybe someone of color will take you seriously, are the jews trying to live off the holocaust, the japanese from pearl harbor. You need a row full of seats and education before you speak. The u.s. is far from equal just look at the entertainment industry, look at the news and all the racial slurs and even more used against obama etc...... The u.s. is far from equal grow the **** up

EHEM, but practically everyone in the US has a luxury over the rest of the world. Now lets not make our society seem as if you are black which makes it 10x harder to get a job. I do understand that there may be more difficulty to get a job, but if you have the credentials to get the job you should be able to get it.

Tribes that lived near the coast went to Interior Africa and captured the slaves and got paid by the Europeans. Bet you didn't know that. Blacks got themselves to America on slave ships by capturing and selling their own kind.
|
Heffa who taught you these lies of mutha****in grandeur take a ****ing history class. The europeans not only conquered africa but RESHAPED the borders to countries. Which in turn increased violence between tribes because they lived in the same countries. The europeans kidnapped the africans and brought them all over, your dumbass can't comprehend that. Just because SOME africans sold their own kind, doesn't mean that happened the majority of the time. You are so uneducated on race and history it is laughable, you can't rewrite history. Sorry but facts are facts

Ok, I didn't mean to offend anyone, this thread is about opinions. I'm just simply saying that we have to move on as a nation to move forward. Talking about slavery, talking about the holocaust, and about how all Muslims are terrorists does nothing and in my opinion brings the world further down. We have to get closure and move on. There will always be racist people in the world, and you WILL NOT be able to change their opinion. Yah it sucks. It's time to move on and show the racist people that you're better than them and to not think about the color of your skin. Rise against the racist assholes who don't like you simply because of the color of your skin.
|
Oh yes the **** you did you showed off your ignorance and racism very clearly for everyone to see. And you do realize WE MUST TALK ABOUT THESE THINGS. In order to move forward you have to remember the past so we don't repeat the same mistakes. It's the reason we learn about the great depression, world wars etc..... It's educating us, so when it comes to talking about situations like this uneducated ppl like you don't make an ass of themselves

They are being racist back, because they are racist and feel that white people owe them something. Obviously not all of the people in the argument but a lot of them, as if white people are the only people who live a 'luxurious' and 'easy' life. It's ridiculous and it's not fair to say.

I'm only talking about America.
And of course, but if you have a Black and White male with same credentials applying for a company run by most whites..you tell me who they would pick? Why else were laws involving Equal Employment opportunity implemented from Hollister type mall jobs to higher-up jobs in companies?
The blunt 1800s racism may be fading but I refuse to believe we don't any work to do when it comes to luxuries like these...
