i've always been a believer that people who are on the receiving end of offensive remarks, be they sexist, homophobic, racist, whatever, should try to embrace the words rather than take offence to them. obviously that's easier said that done, but at the end of the day the words only hold a negative meaning if you want them to. the word "gay" at one point was a homophobic slur and now it's one of the most widely-accepted terms to describe homosexuality.

Give me some strength. I'll get over slavery when the jews stop talking about the holocaust. And ppl stop talking about 9/11 every year. Slavery is intergral part of american history, because slaves built this goddamn country. PLus the after affects of slavery such as racial/ skintone privilege. Racism and stereotypes among other things resulted from slavery. And let's not forget despite slavery being over it wasn't until the 60's that blacks got more equal opportunities with the ending of segregation. That didn't happen that long ago some of our grandparents are still alive from that racist generation, or family members born during that racial period. And still pass down ignorance because of it. I'm mixed race. Although I look like a white person with tanned skin, and that's what people assume I am usually. I do have afro hair, but it's not noticeable because I usually keep it very short.

When I tell people I'm mixed race, I honestly feel that most white people don't treat me much differently, whilst black people tend to be a lot nicer and friendly to me after they find out.

I'm not going to complain about people being nice to me obviously, but I'm just saying lol. They could've treated me like that before they found out I was part black.

I think racism is more than people being nasty to others because of their race, but there's also people out there who seem more likely to befriend or do favours for someone of the same race as them.
