Why was she leaving her WW fans in the dust though? She could have made You and I a US/Canada only release, and then Marry The Night would have done better WW without the momentum being dragged out of its sails with what everybody knew would be a local success at best.

You and I did not do good worldwide at all. The Edge could have done better as well though I do think it will have a lot of recurrent airplay in the future in many countries. Well, I won't get started on the second single Flawlessdas and Marry The Night. Born This Way needed better longevity though it was still a big hit. In terms of single success, she has nowhere to go but up this next era. Slay me Queen!

They probably figured with the promo, MTN couldve kicked off.

She had done the EMAs, performed for Japan on a huge TV show, did US promo, etc.

The business planning was all there. The era just started dragging because it was way too front-loaded. In the end, it all worked out and she's still more global than ever (as the tour is showing.)
She just needs the lead single to be hot.

Brian May was barely part of the song. He's not a collaborator on the song, he's simply playing the guitar for a small solo. He wasn't even in the MV. So there was actually very little (considerably) attention on Brian May when that song was in the charts.

Who cares what the industry or the publications think? They're not as powerful as people on this site claim them to be. In fact, most people probably don't even know Billboard is in charge of the charts. As long as the public loves the music, everything will be fine.

In 2008 she was a man and a one hit wonder, in 2011 she was preachy and desperate, but unstoppable, and by the end of 2011 she was a nobody. People say things.

If her next single comes out and rockets to #1, and sparks a true CULTURAL hit as well, those critics will shut up within the hour. But it's not easy to get such a massive hit, as seen by her lack of ability to repeat the JD/BR moments. Or just see Xtina

With the tour being such a hit, she really has the fuel globally to have a huge hit. itd be ashame if it comes out and disappoints

Actually, I now think the EoG video is one of the most beautiful things she's ever done.

It might have been not what people were expecting/wanting at the time, but looking back at it, and considering Clarence Clemons died a few days after the release (coming out when he was still in hospital), it really is quite amazing. It makes you concentrate on the song's lyrics and message more.
