It's majorly overwhelming at first, but it becomes clearer after a while and songs amazing and impressive. I hope reviewers give it a chance.
I understand why it may be a bit underwhelming at first listen TBH. I think focusing more on the dynamics in her voice will make one appreciate it more.
I've never heard her sing like That's When I Knew (giving me typical Babyface corny vocal, only to slay as Ray Charles lite in the bridge ) or One Thing (very Frank, all the way down to the vocal, no drawn out notes, in a storytelling kinda way)... while When It's All Over reminds me of Michael Jackson a bit, Rock With You-esque, vocals gliding over a smooth production.
It's so perfect Even New Day and Girl On Fire don't bother me as much.
This album deserves so much better. I don't really see Brand New Me boosting sales. She needs to release When It's All Over, One Thing or 101 instead. Hopefully Fire We Make brings in the UAC listener sales.
