and I don't really like that there are people just boiling it down to "well that particular genre is not popular anymore" or "they should make dance music". NO. It's not just about genres not being trendy anymore because in the 90s there was a plethora of blacks in different genres and styles getting shine... not just blacks in R&B/Hip-Hop. Ever heard of Tracy Chapman? Living Colour? Hootie and the Blowfish?
Also, the public has been brainwashed to be a lot more colorstruck these days. We can forget about any female that looks like Lauryn Hill or Brandy in this day and age making it big
