It's not an actual "machine", it's a program with a certain algorithm that tells artists and labels how likely a song could become a hit. It's not 100% accurate. A song scoring high =/= automatic hit because you just can't predict how the GP will react to a song. You think labels and artists just put any song on a record? No, they put the best songs on the record, and they know which songs are the best by polling people and running songs through a program like the "hit machine".
It's actually a pretty pointless program, imo, thus why they poll real life people.
