Boring = safe. Diamonds, like any Rihanna song, was created to be a hit on radio, and it's clearly serving its purpose.
Personally, I despised the song when it came out, and I still don't care for it much. Nevertheless, am I going to deny that it's radio candy? No. And why should anyone else, for any reason other than to overstate her beating all odds to make a smash out of an "unlikely hit." (That wasn't all that unlikely to begin with)
