My thought on Unapologetic:
Tbh at first listen I was like...
I was shocked due to the lack of hits and actually the lack of any generic Rihanna songs (I was expecting yet another LOUD/TTT) And although some of these songs are some of her worst ever, others are brilliant and original! And imo the highs of the album are more than the lows! Surprisingly, the songs and the sound as a whole really do sound developed and finished, unlike TTT. Even though it sounds very dated, I love that old 90s vibe in it! And after the 10th listen of each snippet I honestly love almost the whole album (even the CB collab...which means a lot)! However, there is nothing memorable and attention-grabbing about 90% of the songs, so I'm not sure how it will do on charts...But I don't really care abput charts, so I'm grateful for it, I love it and I love that she took different direction this time! "Phresh Out the Runway" - 2/10 One of her worst songs EVER...it's BC-type of trash
"Diamonds" - 9/10 I still love this song and it's like one of the 2-3 songs that actually sound Ri-ish
"Numb" - 3/10 Probably the biggest disappointment...I mean u've got Eminem and you come up with this ****?! Really?!
Hopefully the whole thing is better than the snippet, cuz...
"Pour It Up" - 6/10 I actually like it, even though it's not my type of music
"Loveeeeeee Song" - 7/10 apart from the drunk sounding Future, I love it! I love the old vibe in it. I expected to hear the explanation for the "eeeeeee"s, but they still don't make sense.
"Jump" - 5/10 Not sure yet, it's not bad, but I'm not a fan of dubstep, so I don't really have an opinion
"Right Now" -
9/10 I LOVE IT! Everything in it is amazing, even the breakdown, which I usually hate in songs. Hopefully next single!!!
"What Now" - 7/10 Not sure about the chorus, but the verse we've got sounds amazing!
"Stay" - 9/10 One of the best on the album! Mikky guy is genious! Very simple and yet very beautiful song! I still not really into the ?chorus? "Staaaaaaay", but still it's almost flawless!
"Nobody's Business" - 6/10 Can't belive I'm saying this, but it's not only bearable, but almost perfect (without him it'd be 9/10 at least) Her vocals here >>>>
"Love Without Tragedy" / "Mother Mary" - 9/10 I expected sth different tbh, but this still *****! But I want to hear Mother Mary as well.
"Get It Over With" - 6/10 I'm not sure yet, but I like it from what I hear, but it's nothing special
"No Love Allowed" - 9/10 I love this song!!! This>>>MD! Or I may be overreacting, but I love the vocals, the vibe, the simplicity, the "Yeeeah"s as well! PERFECT!
"Lost in Paradise" - 10/10 PERFECTION! Tbh I wasn't sure about the ?dubstep? parts, but now I love it! The vocals are amazing and there's no screaming! I need it full!
"Half of Me" - 9/10 - The best ballad on the album imo! Don't like the repeating of "television", but still lyrically it's great and it fits Rih's life!
So from these grades, at the moment - 7/10 for the album, but it may change after the full listen. But the most important thing for me is that it seems that I will be listening to this album more regularly, unlike TTT and Loud, which I left after the first month probably and have less than 100 full listens each...
And to people saying "pretentious as BTW"
There's nothing pretentious about it and it's nothing like the **** that was BTW!
