The song is not exactly radio-friendly. I see why stations won't play it.
It has huge success from the sales. That's enough. Radio would play it if there was a direct demand. (it does play it, in fact - obviously reactions are not too good.)
keep in mind that while a few million people may buy the song there are much, much more people listeining to the radio. And GS is very polarizing. It's not a WBT type of song which everybody was able to agree on being radio candy.
