I think people are so dramatic towards Nicki's stance right now in the industry. PFRR has a 61 on Metacritic, which isn't GREAT but it also isn't in the "bad" zone. Both the urban half and the pop half got some great reviews, and both halves got some negative reviews.
She is consistently getting awards, she is consistently getting endorsements and she is STILL invited to be a feature on everybody's tracks.
So what if she has lost a chunk of urban supporters FOR NOW. The urban community is among the most fickle - they CONSTANTLY turn on people who aren't giving them what they want - whether it be Usher or Chris or Ne-Yo or Mary J Blige - PLEASE remember at one point they hated Lil Wayne too. They ALWAYS throw a ****in tantrum if ANYBODY does ANYTHING remotely out of the norm.
As soon as Nicki drops something gritty and hot, they will be back. It's not even that serious. I cannot STAND the amount of attention that is put into making sure they are satisfied. They don't give two ****s.
People act like Nicki is struggling. PLEASE look at hip hop sales this year:
Rick Ross is only at 330k. ****ing Nas.... NAS is at 260k. Frank Ocean at 330k. Tyga ain't even at 300k yet. And the list goes on and on and on and on.
So exactly what ****ing urban sales is she missing?
Kanye & Jay, Wayne, Drake, Eminem, etc are some of the only people still pulling in big numbers and Nicki is right behind them. IDK why people are acting like this is 2005, where hip hop albums are a guaranteed seller. Times have CHANGED.
I can only IMAGINE where Nicki would be if she only did hip hop.

Perfection...couldn't have said it better myself. People act like Urban music is dominating. The bottom line is that she grew her stanbase worldwide. Now, if she puts out more Va va vooms and less polarizing starships things will get better and better.
At first I didn't understand why she wouldn't just put out Va va voom first but I realize that she took the risks for a few reasons. I'm sure it won't happen again but she needed to get certain things out of her system and get the controversy...now hopefully things fall into place with better single choices.
