Yes, there were plenty of talented acts back then who got the commercial fame they deserved (just as there are now), but look at some of the pop charts from, say, the 60s or 70s... I guarantee you'll see a lot more KC & the Sunshine Band and the Village People than Lou Reed, Kate Bush or Joni Mitchell.

Kelly Clarkson, P!nk, Adele, Demi Lovato, they're all talented. It is true though, true talent usually doesn't equal success. There's a shitload of successful people in the industry who are just plain horrible and completely untalented
