Because you made only that entry as private. If you want to create a private blog that appears on the front page, you should make that blog public then go here and change your settings so all your blogs will be friends-only/private.

My point is that the ga half doesn't make sense without the fun half... so it just looks like you were bypassing the nickname rule with a space, which is probably why it was warned.

It depends. If it's like "join this new pop music forum that defecates all over ATRL" then we probably won't allow it. If it's a personal website or tumblr or whatever, then it's okay.
