The reaction to "Die Young" has been so negative though. It's a shame, but I have to keep telling myself that ATRL's opinion is not reflective of how the song will be received by the general public.

I think it's for the best that she doesn't. It's important that this song has longevity.
I'd rather "DY" sell really well, instead of a #1 debut while plummeting a week or two later.
But why should it debut at #1? Do you want it to have the same fate as Hold It Against Me? All front loaded then fall off super fast. Let it grow. Let it build. It's about longevity.

It's funny -- ATRL hates California Gurls for sounding like Tik Tok, but the general public loves it. ATRL hates Die Young because it sounds like other recent songs, but I don't think the GP will make the connection here either. Die Young won't flop, by any means.
I heard a little bit of Diamonds and its already at 82 on US iTunes, but like everyone has said longevity is what we want.
The GP loves Die Young twitter loves it, YouTube comments they love it, it was already playing at my friends job yesterday. I've asked people's opinion and they love it. They said they love the feel good feeling it gives off.
