The Macys stores in NY had multiple counters filled with FAME on launch day and the weeks following, not to mention the promotion for this is larger than for any other fragrance. Just because something like this has never happened before doesn't make it impossible to be true.

But Macy's is the
main store that's carrying it. And it's not like these estimates seem "a little off". You could change any of my assumptions by an entire order of magnitude, and these figures would still be suspicious. Hell, I even did some numbers assuming the US only accounts for 20% of WW perfume sales (which is ridiculously unrealistic), and it still makes no sense.
And from the numbers I saw, her campaign is ~$30M, the same used for Bieber's latest perfume campaign.
It doesn't help that they keep comparing this to "Coco Chanel", and I can't find a whisper or mention of any perfume selling so much in a week in the past, so it makes me believe someone is either very confused or carefully twisting statistics.
If they've managed to collect 6M bottles worth of orders from retailers, that's fantastic. But that's not moving 6 million bottles, and I see nothing to make me believe it's sold 6 million bottles at retail. In the past, when Bieber did millions opening week at Macy's, it was big enough to warrant news coverage, so I don't see how the biggest celebrity sales week the fragrance industry has ever seen wouldn't receive similar attention. I mean, the $300M opening week we're throwing around here is on the order of ONE HUNDRED TIMES bigger than the opening week of Bieber's "Someday", which was all over the news.
