They only say that because they have to
They also said that all the album versions would be really different yet half of those it was the same that leaked. I don't blame them for putting them on though, it costs a lot of money for writers, producers, and studio time. It would be really stupid not to use them because less than one percent of potential buyers might have heard them.
I think the only mistake was Mr. Know It All. It definitely seems like it was a last minute addition because their potential lead singled leaked. But they should have just used one of the leaks instead (although I'm not gonna lie, the song has grown on me a lot, I've been jamming hard the many times I have been hearing it on radio lately).
