Beyonce on writing in 2001:
Quote:
Writing is a weird thing. With some artist, somebody will write the chorus for them, that's the hard part and the most important, because it repeats. A few artist don't write their songs, but they will write two words or maybe a sentence. For instance, instead of saying "outside" they may change it to "inside". If they do that, they still get a writer's credit even though it might only be half of one percent of the creative contribution. When the CD lists the writers', that persons name is there.
A few people like to say "Beyonce didn't write her own songs." But there isn't anybody else in the studio but Kelly, Michelle, and I. Here's how it works: First of all, the music tracks come in and each of us has to access to them. Everybody has the opportunity to contribute lyrics. I'm the first to get at it. I might be on a plane or in a make up chair, or wherever. An idea for a song pops into my head, and I write it down. Then i'll keep fleshing out the idea, hammering out the lyrics, until I have the entire song.
