Why? Sometimes a smiley conveys enough to add something of value to the thread, other times it's clear post whoring. It's up to each mod to decide. If you don't want to risk anything, don't post just a smiley. It can't be that hard.

I would agree, but it's not what's happening. I mean i got warned for agreeing with the OP in a thread by posting a smiley (how the heck does that not add any of value to the thread?). And yet when someone posts a only in the battleship thread it stays unwarned....

That's the point of moderating. It's subjective reasoning. And like Kworb said, if you are unsure if it'll warrant a WP or not, be creative and try something safer
