I try to stick with one family but get bored after a while & play another for a while then go back to it.

I always start with one young adult woman, that I always make her in couple with a pre made sim, sometimes she just have kids(never more than 2) with them but never have a chance to be officially with them.

When I'm bored with my family I do a SimBrother
Taking 8 people in a house, that they can't go out of it, do a Big Brother with them. I don't manipulate them so much and by the relation they got together I count the vote of the evicted ones (sometimes I kill the evicted ones, sometimes I just put them in a close room with a bed, a fridge, a shower and a TV)... I know I'm crazy.

Sometimes I do the Simbrother thing, too.
But I manipulate relations and decide myself who has to go.

I hate how hard it is to make custom towns. In the Sims 2 it was ridiculously easy, now i'm just stuck with like 5 pre made ones

Never played Sims 1. I have every EP for Sims 2 though.

I never played sims 3 i had to make a tough decision whether to get 2 or 3

I stick with one family in one town and just play through the generations. The longest was 8 generations.

Get 3, its way better than 2. Night Life is Late Night in the Sims 3 and they have pets also.

You could always download others from the exchange or other websites
