I think the closest was Born This Way at #2? (I think Adele blocked her with SLY). Can't remember.

#3, another song blocked her too.

No, I don't think ARTPOP will outsell BTW nor WW nor in the US.

I can't see why not. Born This Way was the "flop" album, remember?

Lady Gaga Confirms New Album's Title Is ARTPOP
Quote:
Lady Gaga's fans won't have to wait until September to learn the name of her next release after all. After tweeting out a photo of her new tattoo, which reads ARTPOP, last week, she took to Twitter over the weekend to confirm that the ink is indeed the name of her 2013 album release.
"Make sure when writing about my new album/project ARTPOP that you CAPITALIZE the title, *its all in the details* good morning twitter!" she wrote on Sunday.
Mother Monster originally revealed her plan to drop the album's title in September back in June before apparently getting antsy and releasing the name a month ahead of schedule. It's a title she's had in mind since MTV News spoke to her last year.
"I've started writing it and I have the name for it, and all the concepts are beginning to flourish and take place," she said in December. "I'm excited to put it out, but it's not done yet. So I'll put it out when it's done."
Gaga has been making time to record ARTPOP while on her Born This Way tour. She reportedly enlisted the help of Whitesnake guitarist Doug Aldrich for the album. The twosome hit the studio with Gaga's longtime collaborator DJ White Shadow in Los Angeles.
She also recently teased fans with a new song, blasting it out of her car while in New York City. She even implied that the dance track would be the first single from the new album. DJ White Shadow produced the track.
Gaga has also been playing her new piano-heavy song "Princess Die" while on tour. During one stop, she opened up a bit about her next album. "Let's just say I feel, I feel that when I wrote Born This Way, I demonstrated a sense of maturity," she said. "And I feel that on the next album, there's a lack of maturity — it's a tremendous lack of maturity or sense of responsibility."

It'll be more liked and commercially embraced but with the instinct that Interscope won't go all out like they did with BTW, it's hard to tell. I think this era will test whether she still "has it." She has the power to do it, but the music speaks for itself.

IIRC, it debuted at #3 (behind Adele and Jessie J).
Then, they performed at the Brits, and she couldn't get that #1 on the second week either

I think that she needs to find a middle ground between the musical evolution shown in Born This Way and the fun, commercial sound of The Fame to really get the sales she needs to surpass BTW. She could do it, it's whether she will that we don't know. If the lead single is great, she'll have a 750k+ opening week, and I think this era she'll have a lot more longevity.

I agree, although BTW's lyrical content is much loved amongst fans, it didn't sit so well with everyone around the world. If she can combine the production of Born This Way and more mature lyrics (some of her old material is very basic/plain lyrically) but a la The Fame Monster, then she'll be heading towards a very interesting and hopefully successful era.
We'll see soon enough when the first single is released anyway

For the album? I don't think she can reach that number, especially with a Q1 release. Agreed with everything else though.

She needs To just plan out the era and make it have longitivty, the singles this time around need to be more opened to the GP same as the album ! I have a really good feeling for this era but it seems like interscope isnt gonna go all out for this album, their probably gonna let it sell on its own with small amount of promo !

Actually, she needs more Paparazzi/Bad Romance sounds/videos, it's the moment when her popularity totally blew up, the public would be here for that I think.

I'm also really interested in seeing the lead single's opening numbers. With the recent digital boom, her breaking the one-week sales record isn't out of the question, especially with a Monday release.
