The label can buy RIAA platinum certifications if the album has actually SHIPPED over 1million copies, hence how the likes of Believe, Femme Fatale, etc... have been certified platinum in US without actually selling that much!
They really should certify albums by sales, not albums.. it really is misleading to say "oh ma gawd pink friday: roman revenge iz certifyed 4 1,000,000 copiez" because some people will actually use it as a receipt as if it's going to sell 1,000,000 copies.

They should, but that would be a problem. Because I doubt all the sales of album before Nielsen. The RIAA is still stuck in the old days when there was no accurate way to know sales.

At the end of the day though, and artist is more respected for reaching 1,000,000 in sales - not 1,000,000 shipments.
Considering Jive never certified other albums (Talking about Britney) I'm fine with them certifying FF platinum even though, it'll reach it the next millenium.
