Mariah is an influence on hip-hop because of her remixes in the late 90s. During the Daydream era (1995 - 1996), she began remixing her songs with a more hip-hop sound and features from rappers. At the time, this was entirely new and no one had ever done it before. As a result, collaborations between rappers and pop stars became more mainstream, the rest is history.
