Regarding US:
I literally have no idea what you people are talking about with Zayn being #1. I love him just as much as the others, but I literally hear nothing about him. I do think Liam is probably #4 which is sad since he's my fav while the others are tied for #2 right behind him, but Niall and Harry are by far the two most popular from what I've observed. I mean there was even that article about how Niall was the most popular over here. I do think Harry might be #1, but IDK. But Zayn is not #1. If anyone thinks he is #2 over here then that's absolutely mind boggling to me. I think he deserves it just as much as the others, but he's #5 from my observations or at the very highest #3. Harry & Niall are by far the two biggest here. Oh and Louis can go from anywhere from #3 to #5. Depends on who you ask. The Gays and Youngins seem to love him, while the Older Girls and whomever else don't use him as much unless it's Larry Stylinson.
I'm just thinking though that 1D may release around Christmas don't y'all think? That's when the kiddies will have gift cards to use. It would be smart. Also I'm so psyched for more guitar tracks on this album based on what Niall is saying.

Thanks Guy for the receipts. It is painfully clear Harry is the most popular in the US. I didn't know it was the same in the UK too though.

Liam is underrated everywhere because of Danielle. If they ever break up he'll be huge. He's just always been tied down so the 12 year old's prepubescent ******* aren't here for him.

Harry is the most popular worldwide simply because he's the best. He's the only one who could probably make it solo, because he has, pun intended the "X Factor." The other boys shine together, but Harry clearly has the charisma and public interest to be te star of the group. There's a reason he was always placed as the front man and in the middle during the show performances. He's the Justin Timberlake of One Direction, and obviously perfect in every way imaginable.
Liam is the least popular because he's the most boring aka heterosexual of the group. A big part of being a huge celebrity is having aspects the public can make fun of (ie Rihanna being a *****/unable to sing, Adele being fat, Gaga dressing like a welfare transvestite, Harry talking like he's mentally incapable of speech, etc.). Niall is like a pre-teen, Zayn is try-hard, and Louis is a closet-case while Liam is seemingly perfect. It's the exact same reason why Nicole Scherinhewfwoger can 't hit it with the public. I mean, the most notable thing about him (to non-Directioners) is his birthmark. Hardly worthy of talking about.

I've always says this, I love Liam because he's perfect, boyfriend material, even husband material  but I also love Harry because he has the attitude, that X-Factor that no one of them have. Basically Liam is Stefan and Harry is Damon and yes, I'm talking about the Salvatore brothers. 
One of Liam's kidneys works, I see him as part of the future X-Factor judges and Niall has a co-host because he's the funny one. Zayn isn't a try-hard, he's just boring

Oh sorry Regina I just saw it posted and assumed it was an article.
And I could see Harry going solo easily too.
And see to me November is close to Christmas so I agree Regina. I just don't think it will be any earlier, like some people think.
If we are going to compare them to others, I do see Harry as the Timberlake of the group. Liam as the JC/Kelly. Louis will go into acting of some sort. Niall will be Joey Fatone and will go into Reality Shows and stuff & Zayn will be Chris Kirkpatrick. And I don't mean that as Shade though it will probably come across that way. Like I've always said Liam is my #1 and the rest are #2, so I'm not shading them. But ugh whatever. Report if you must.

Liam is definitely husband and dad material, and that's what makes him sexy. However, Harry is leave your husband and father of your kids for just one night of hot, passionate sex material and that's what makes him the best. He just effortlessly oozes star quality at all times.

I used to feel bad for him because it was so obvious he was socially awkward and uncomfortable early on, but now his whole public persona reeks of fakeness to me. And that is why he'll forever remain #5 in my heart.

Tbh, I don't see Niall going solo.
He's stated before that he was studying Sound Engineering in school so I think he's going go behind the scenes and become a great producer someday.
I think Zayn is gonna go into acting/modeling or something in the entertainment industry, and yeah, Harry is gonna do his thing Ala Robbie Williams/Justin Timberlake.
Just my opinion.
