Celeb News: CNN: Gaga not an artist or about the music

Sheesh. I don't stan for her, but I am not bothered in the least by her gimmickry. It's part of her artistry. I can't say it enough. The pop game is very much about branding these days. All of the top stars have distinct brands that they use to sell music. Gaga's over the top wardrobe and theatrics are part of her brand. Bey's somewhat convoluted interpretation of feminism is a part of her brand. Rihanna's attitude and style are a part of her's. Lana Del Rey bills herself as the "Gangsta Nancy Sinatra." We all know what Katy uses to sell music. . . Nicki with her Harajuku Barbie schtick, and so on and so forth. I give Gaga a lot of credit for coming up with a lot of this mess. It looks like hard work.

About 80% of people who responded, to be honest. Monsters and non-monsters alike

I'd be here for that In fact, I think that's what she needs to do to prove the public that she has talent and that she's not all about antics.

The "Fame" gaga was definetly a true artist.
The BTW Gaga focuses TOO hard on trying to be weird and different, coming off as forced. It's not nearly as natural or effortless as it once was. That goes for her music AND style

There are others, such as Nicole Scherzinger, Britney Spears, Paris Hilton, Heidi Montag, Rihanna, who don't put much input into their music who this article should be going after. Those people use music as a platform for their other endeavors, whereas the majority of GaGa's "stunts" play into her music, or musical themes.

Now you know that if the article was about Britney, this thread would have been closed pages ago.

I do think the crazy outfits, shock factor overtakes Lady Gaga the talent. With that said it still doesn't take away the fact she is a talented woman, some may overlook it.

She has accepted to have her work distributed through a greedy major label system that is cruel , oppressive, and only seeks money -- that sacrifices true artistry in the name of money and dumb chart positions. It's not a chart record or chart numbers that create true art. If you accept to have your art dumbed down or subdued by their "rules", then your art works for greedy and opressive causes. You are only a tool to propagate their ideals of making people dumb.

Oh, maybe she should, because I'm sick of people saying that she can't sing and has no talent. If everyone saw something like that, maybe they would finally realize that she's a great singer.

LMAO! So because you prefer one era to another that means she was an artist in one but not an artist in the other.
LMAO! The logic some you use is entertainment.

She performed that acoustic mash up of Speechless and Poker Face, and it changed nothing.

but she does stand up for non bullying, LGBT rights, and as well as inspiring people. Aren't those positive causes???

I was expecting her to do that for the 2012 Grammy's Simple look, simple (yet great) performance. Kinda like the Alan Carr performance, but maybe without the giant pink bow.

what you're saying applies to absolutely every artist in the music industry, i fail to see your point.

Wait so the era that turned Gaga into a "sell out" (The Fame) was "true artistry," but the era where she finally put out music she's been wanting to make since forever (Born This Way) makes her "not a true artist."
What?

Personally I think she does a lot of the theatrical stuff simply because she can. I bet there are a lot of artists that would love to do a lot of crazy, theatrical, visionary things with their videos and stage shows, but they don't have Gaga's budget.
