This article is a mess. It can't even decide if it's praising her or shading her. Brings up a few good points, though.

I'm not a Monster but minus all the hype, all the controversy, Gaga has the talent. She writes her own songs, she can sing her ass off, she dances a lot -- if that isn't a definition of an artist I really don't know what is.

She isnt an artist. Why, you ask? While she is indeed talented, she uses her talented in the wrong way -- meaning that her message and music is geared toward her agenda, and making people worship her as a God. What I'm trying to say is look at her fans. They call her "GodGa", what the hell is this? She is no God. There is only ONE God, and that is not her or any pop artist. Pop artist are just regular people who make recycled **** music for brainwashed masses. Quit listening to it, it just follows the agenda of the ELITE to make people dumb and worship dumb celebrities so that they can manipulate everyone easly.

every stan base does that, its not the artists fault. shut up

anyways, gaga said herself. the reason behind the crazy outfits and her image is to keep people talking about her musical persona and drive them away from her personal life. and it works, no one checks for her private life because her celebrity self is so fascinating. so in the end, i think people do focus on her music, and associate it with her outfits, almost as an extension of the music itself.

Lady Gaga. Not an artist? Okay. She's one of the most talented pop stars of our generation. CNN can take a seat.
And Ke$ha a faceless, anonymous pre-fabrication of a pop star?
Do they even know what they're talking about? Just seems like some old person pressed because they miss their music and hate everything popular today.

I spot no lies.
For Gaga, it's more about theatrics than the music, and this article is SPOT ON.

Everyone, please read the full article and not just the first few lines. The tone is actually rather neutral. They're not doubting Gaga's talent. It's merely about the societal shifts that have made overall imagery and celebrity supersede pure music, which is a reflection of growing technology and the evolution of music. It's not claiming that Gaga isn't an artist because she's gimmicky. It's making the argument that the fact that Gaga is such a huge star is at least partially because she's been able to capitalize on and contribute to the growing trend of music being more about the whole image than just music alone. It's not necessarily saying that Gaga is not an artist, but that the artistry of music is changing with the times. It's a pretty interesting article, and it's not really good or bad press for Gaga. Some of you are trying hard to make it out to be a massive shade, and it's really not at all

When you think about Lady gaga you dont think about her as an artist. you think about her crazy outfits and controversy videos.
She may be an artist for her fans who follow and know what she's doing but for normal people out there she is what CNN is saying

I can see why they say today's acts are manufactured and products of the show biz. It's because for most of the greats and starving artists took more than 3 albums in (or 10 years of being a not-so-popular acts) to achieve what the likes of Joanne have been enjoying since LP1.

Lady Gaga is a liar. She uses her brainwashed fans to promote her agenda. Like Madonna. Like any pop artist, actually. You all should stop listening to this garbagge music, and listen to indie artists instead.

Stop. You care more about the marketing strategy than the actual music sis. As long as the music's good, why not?

Every fanbase does that, because pop music is controlled by big corporate companies who work together with the government to protect their rights to extend their copyright for years and years, while they pay ****** paychecks to middle class people, while they over tax middle class people and let the rich become richer, while they sue regular people for downloading some songs, while they are ****ing rich and greedy. It's whitin the interest of the music industry that the fans look up to artists as Gods, so that they will never question their message, so that you keep paying overpriced tickets for shows and keep them richer, and richer.
Look at these Madonna tickets. Her fans never question her decision as a member of LIVE NATION that she never tried to stand up for lower ticket prices...NO, she wants to continue to overcharge people with these prices. I will NEVER give her any CENT.

So theyre bitter because artist brand themselves and make a lot more money? It's still a business and understanding how the industry evolves and being able to stay on top says a lot morevthan you being able to play a guitar or write a short song.

The article brings up a lot of good points, but they are rather flawed as well. For example, they do not reference Gaga's work as a humanitarian, instead choosing to paint her as an egocentric, fame-centered individual.
Really, Gaga did let her interests as a humanitarian get the better of her during the BTW era, which is why she may come off as someone who could care less about the music anymore. Of course, Bono of U2 did the exact same thing, so like others have said, it isn't just her.

Everything they're saying doesn't make her an artist is what makes her an artist. That's what performance art IS.
