I realized today that Katy Perry's Teenage Dream era was very similar to The Fame. Generic, tailor-made-for-radio music, stereotypical pop star imagery, and appealing to the sensibility of 13-15 year olds.
The thing I don't understand is why people who like The Fame so much didn't switch over to Katy when she gave them what they wanted.

Because The Fame wasn't generic, stereotypical pop star imagery, tailor-made-for-radio music.

It's mostly the BTW fans who hate on everything she did before that.

Her outrageous fashion wasn't stereotypical. The main reason she's a powerful star, is because she kept the spotlight on her thanks to her outfits and fierce personality.

Yes it was. I thought everyone said that the entire era was a 'parody' of the traditional pop star, but now it's nothing like it at all?
Alright.

Yes it was? Gaga didn't create her music in a vacuum. Generic just means anyone could have sung the songs, and that's true for 3 of the 4 singles. Most of The Fame is filler, and anyone can do filler.

I love Born This Way and I think it's her best album, but I still argue with people who say that The Fame was generic or basic. If it was basic, Gaga would be a synonym of Ke$ha or just another pop girl without Worldwide star power.

I bet you wouldn't have said that in 2008-2009.

Gaga needs to hurry up with that Annoucement for her single cause once she tells us the title then the promo starts with us tweeting to nonstop + articles on the next single ! Oh and i was thinking that Gaga should do voice records of her saying her new single will be out on radios & then say the radios name + release date ! Thats good promo

I wasn't one of those saying that (how dumb, btw ) and again - no The Fame was not at all, but it's pointless arguing since you seem to think otherwise.
Yet, Telephone is probably her most generic single.

I did, though. Gaga wasn't that interesting until Paparazzi. The rest was just fluff.

I know Telephone is generic
I didn't say generic music is bad.
But look at Just Dance vs Telephone. Anyone could have sung Just Dance with that video. Only Gaga could do Telephone.

Exactly.
It was more commercial but at the time no one was doing what Gaga was able to give with her music, performances and style.
Also, The Fame was not made for kids or teenagers and it's 10x more personal than an album like Teenage Dream.

If her first sinlgles were generic, why did Poker Face and Just Dance beats sound groundbreaking then? That's what I don't understand.

The Fame is personal?
How? I mean the album is called The Fame... there's a reason it was called that.

They sound like pretty standard Europop to me.

You're right with that. The entirety of The Fame not, though. And that's what makes it. No one could've pulled off the entire era like her because it consisted of other singles and videos and songs and performances, as well, you know.
Just Dance was risky for its time because dance wasn't on radio at all, so she was the only one brave enough to try this route.

Well clearly not many people could perform as well as her, but that wasn't in my original point
LoveGame, Just Dance, and Poker Face all had pretty standard videos.
Paparazzi was the first time she put herself a cut above the rest.
