She was one of the few, if not only artist who could score multiple 3X plat singles, which was huge back then.
Just like Rihanna, Katy will not keep her digital power forever, in fact it is already starting to wear out.

Rihanna's title of "digital queen" has been exaggerated a lot, honestly. She was not scoring multiple 3x platinum singles either. "Umbrella" and "Disturbia" did not hit those marks until 2009, "Don't Stop The Music" in 2010. Fergie was hitting multi-platinum quicker before Rihanna, but she is overlooked for her major digital success. That's just an example to show how exaggerated the title was for her.
As Castro noted, her songs do well because she gets tons of radio support. Her digital sales are really weak however. She just has a ton of singles to make up the sales, plus the heavy hitter collaborations.. but they all sell a moderate amount.
Katy's digital power title is indeed justified however. I'm intrigued to know how it's already starting to wear out for you. Is "Wide Awake" not the No. 1 digital song this week?

Fergie was a way better digital seller than Rihanna. Rico summed it up really well.

9 Kanye West 30,242,000
10. Britney Spears 28,665,000
This quote is a lot of lies. Without her collabs she wouldn't be No. 1. And just one or two more singles from Lady Gaga or even a new comeback from Black Eyed Peas / Eminem, she could easily lose the spot in less than a "few years".

Is this real? Cause these seem kinda low tbh. According to her receipts, Carrie Underwood has sold 22,600,000 (US). Take away about 1 million for Good Girl which falls outside of this time period and she's still approx 22mil. Honestly wouldn't expect her to be near these sellers yet, Taylor's the only country (debatable) artist up there too.
Cool.

Yes, they're real. They may seem low but the digital era has just been around 8 years now and of course only got really big the last few.

Katy is undisputedly the digital queen now, I would have argued it was still GaGa until around E.T. time but Katy has proven her title over & over & over again now.

Gaga lost that title when "Alejandro" failed to reach 3x Platinum. Also, "Bad Romance" even took a long time to manage 5x Platinum, only hitting it just recently, and "Born This Way," a lead single that spent six weeks at number one after DEBUTING there, still hasn't reached 4x Platinum.
She is still my fave, and I know my statements about her don't reflect that, but her digital popularity is GONE, and I seem to be one of the few who accept it.
Katy's "fading digital popularity" only has to do with the era having been drawn out for a full two years. The first four singles will ALL go 5x platinum in the end (the title track being the only one who hasn't reached that landmark).
As far as current digital power goes, I'd say
Katy > Adele > Rihanna > Nicki > Kesha > Gaga > Britney > Beyonce.
Nicki's only ahead of Kesha because of Starships and Super Bass, not to mention all of her collabs (Turn Me On, Bottoms Up, Dance (A$$))
I'd even put Carly ahead of Gaga, because she is clearly going to outsell "Poker Face" with "Call Me Maybe," and "Good Time" has barely even started.

I always wondered how RiRi doesn't.have one of the best selling singles ever since her songs are always #1 for weeks on airplay.
Is really weird tbh

Ke$ha always sells good tbh. Her singles are never promoted heavily or performed a lot and most of them have.sold 2 milli.

All of her singles are certified 2x Platinum. She's coming to rip that Digital Queen crown from Katy's wig here pretty soon.

Katy has definitely proven herself to be the digital queen. Her single success from both albums are near flawless. I wonder how her singles will perform next era. I can see her continuing that streak for a bit longer if she plays her cards right, but you never really know with the general public.

Katy, Taylor, or Eminem can all snatch Rihanna in the very near future.

Hm, I don't know. By the release and explosion of "Firework", I'd say Katy was the new victor with the title. Gaga really only has "Poker Face" and "Just Dance" to her name, as Clash noted "Bad Romance" took a very long to reach major numbers. And even so those were longevity hits, while Katy comes and really sells powerfully throughout each single release. Gaga had duds early on ("LoveGame", "Paparazzi", "Telephone", "Alejandro") and of course the entire Born This Way era (as a whole). Even the title track. Selling 1 million copies in 10 days really doesn't matter to people when you close with a little over 3 million.

I wouldn't go that far, as she still does have those fans who will support her, no matter what she puts out.
I don't even see her getting another number one debut though. The streaming barrier will make it very hard for her frontloaded sales to even get her to debut at the top, which is the only thing that she would be able to manage anymore.
