And Sparks Fly and Ours may have been the two #1s of the Speak Now era, but Mean remains unbothered as the most memorable hit from the album.

#friends4lyfe.
And on radio updates. Well, what's the point of having 9M AI, if the song could only able to sell 1M max? Let's be honest, who still listen to radio nowadays?
Also CFC & others, thought-provoking article from WSJ. Very interesting read to say the least: http://online.wsj.com/article/SB1000...Tabs%3Darticle

Even if I usually hate radio, and I don't listen to it, it helps to sell singles and for promo
look at demi's Give your heart a break, we know that it will be a single since last december, 8 months ago, the music video was released +3 months ago, but it's now when it's top 15 on itunes, thanks to the radio support (+60 Million AI) and the most important thing, it's helping Unbroken (the album) to sell more copies, it wasn't on itunes top 200 since months ago and now is #62
(I know this thread is about taylor, I just talked about demi because It's an example)

I still don't buy that theory. I'm a jackass when it comes to commercial music and the whole marketing BS. Based on how easy it is to manipulate AI nowadays, it's not a fair game for me. Sorry.

I just wished that the memorable single from this Speak Now had better, more matured lyrics than Mean.

Young people, media hype (X-Factor), and digital sales (which is a result from media hype). The AI manipulation is like cheating for me. What's the point then? And even if it gained a lot of AI, how many ppl actually listen to it? If it's only a small part of music audience who still listen to Top 40 music, then it doesn't really gain new audience, right? Isn't the point of promo is to broaden the audience, not just selling the same crowd? Whole different story tho if it got hyped by indie blogs like Pitchfork or HypeMachine, since it's the new marketing way.

I agree with you, but I think that not everyone that usually listen top 40 radio are demi's fans, but if they listen to her song on the radio, and they like it, maybe they will buy just that song,
I don't know about other places but here in spain a lot of people listen to radio (not me), and then they download the song (here in spain almost nobody buy songs..they download it illegally) just because they like it, maybe they don't even know who is singing it
So I don't think that radio can make a song a huge hit (look at rihanna's WHYB, huge AI but the digital sales aren't that good) but it helps a lot

What the hell is Need You Now doing on the UK iTunes at #22 ???
And if BOU keeps on climbing and gets a better peak , the chart positions will all look nice
Australia (ARIA) ( a definite new peak )
Canada (Canadian Hot 100) 23
New Zealand (RIANZ) 24 ( it will have a new peak if it keeps on holding on )
UK Singles Chart 94 ( will probably have a new peak )
US Billboard Hot 100 18
And we'll add Ireland soon too , it's climbing fast there , Ireland and now the UK . I wonder what happened in that area that made the song suddenly jump .

Yeah, even though I live in the UK, I dislike how the charts work here for singles. It's promo, easy to get into the top 40, based on digital and we get new #1s like every week and also a top 10 debut every week.
