Movie: Katy's concert movie won't break even from box-office

That's not how it works. The reason people say a film needs to double its budget is to make up for the marketing part. People don't include the marketing cost when they say a film needs to double its budget.
So no, it will breakeven when it crosses the 30m threshold, not by much though.

After ALL the apparent facts, some people CONTINUE to try hard ro convince others and themselves that the movie isn't underperforming.Sorry, but you're the ones who're coming across as pressed or deluded right now. It's not like Katy's other achievements are being downplayed cause of a movie's floppage,so stop being mad,****ing admit it and move the **** on.When a huge star like her fails to do well, ofcourse ppl are going to talk.

No, the reason people say a film needs to double its budget is because studios have to split box office revenue with the theaters.

US theatres keep ~50% of the gross. International theatres keep ~60%.

Theaters get a cut of the revenue. The average is generally held to be 55% studio / 45% theaters.

I have been following the box office for six years, and that 60-75m is accurate. Theaters keep roughly 50% of ticket sales.

Also, breaking even is still a flop since it does NOTHING for Paramount at the end of the day. It's basically just a waste of time on their end since they could have used that money and time for something more beneficial.
Both parties can be blamed though, both for overestimating Katy's power and influence.

It's a shame it's actually a really good movie and it deserves to be doing a lot better.

This entire Teenage Dream era has really focused on making her into a star. In most cases, the praise is warranted. She's been extraordinarily successful with her songs, videos, etc. Sometimes, though, there's just ridiculously good PR at work.

That's true.Capitol's strategy since the beginning of TD era has been to create an illusion of her being bigger than she is,and that might have involved a lot of costs, but it has worked and actually increased her starpower a lot.The benefits derived will exceed the costs involved in the long term.

I must ask though, how is the OP and many other *concerned posters* going to call this a flop and say it won't break even when we have only seen the opening weekend numbers?
- We only have numbers for FIVE countries
- Only the first week/opening weekend for these countries
- No DVD sales yet
Things to think about.

if it was for someone else it will be ok, but considering how big she's in the US and how much promotion and buzz she gets whenever she releases something it's underwhelming and embarrassing.
